A Victorian Figured Walnut Bookcase By Holland & Sons,
the lower section enclosed by four glazed doors with three adjustable shelves,
the upper section with foliate cornice above four glazed doors flanked by spiral columns,
the interior converted for display with “watered silk” backs and bases and nine adjustable glass shelves (three for each section). Two long wood shelves and two short shelves have been retained so that the upper section could be returned to a bookcase,
if required. All the wooden shelves have walnut veneered leading edges.
One door edge is stamped Holland & Sons
Holland & Sons (1843-1942) were a leading firm of Victorian cabinetmakers favoured with commissions from Queen Victoria, Palace of Westminster, London clubs, etc and exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851.
